It must be nice to have church at least (I'm not religious myself :/) and hope the time with your fiancee's family went well ^^ Also sorry to hear about the situation with your sister, but I sure hope that things ended up working out (or starting to work out) for the both of you I ended up having a good time with my family friends, although it was nothing like Christmas, just being with some other people definitely brightened my mood up a lot. I just wonder when I'll be able to see my parents next though. When was the last time you saw yours? :/ I guess they'll be going to the wedding though right?

As always your promo wall looks hot I'll try to pull something up in a bit. Maybe over this weekend but I'm secretly hoping I can camp out at family friends for another couple of days, we shall see... I'm so shameless x)

I went back in September for an informal engagement dinner with my family and relatives back home, so that was good to catch up with everyone also to show my fiancee my root of origins

And of course my parents are coming for the wedding, I'm not walking down the isle by myself! But no other relatives can make it I don't think, everyone's busy and pretty much need something like a year of advanced notice

And man that's lame about your other relatives! D: But yeah it's tough I guess, out of college everyone's just wrapped in their own work/lives... :/ Oh well it means less people to fuss over, hopefully they'll still mail in presents 8d

I would except my laptop has semi-died in last couple days. I don't have any particular ideas for simple minimalistic walls that I really like right now to work on, since that's all this damn old thing is capable of. Oh well it's ok No need to rush, (and no need to put yourself in a walling cage either xD) I just wanted to check in :3

*sigh* My boss told me on Friday as a "surprise" that I can take next Tuesday off as well. I was like yay, but I was also thinking WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME EARLIER D: If I had known I was getting an extra day off I would've gone to Cali to visit family over Christmas. But noo, instead I'm stuck here. Luckily not by myself over break though, tomorrow I'll be heading over to family friends' place, chill with their kids and play a bit of PS2 and hopefully grab some good food... yum yum yum.

I'm lucky that they're there otherwise I would've been VERY bitter... in fact yesterday before I got the invite I was feeling all emo and stayed up all night for the heck of it. Don't know what good that did me since the emoness lingered. Then today they came by to pick up/drop off a book I wanted to borrow, discovered that my boyfriend was not spending Christmas with me as he went home to Australia to be with HIS family, and invited me over. So yes that's my bittersweet Christmas story. Not really in a tremendous walling mood, as you can tell. Maybe after the damn holiday is over I'll force my laptop into opening Illustrator/Photoshop...

Yeah as I told my boyfriend if it was any other weekend I would've been happy about getting Monday and Tuesday off. But since everyone else gets to be with their family I'm like . . . D: Ah yeah forgot to mention that my parents are in Taiwan. Mom's side of the family is in Cali... yargh.

Interesting choice to go with a photo base, did you paint it from scratch with the photo as a reference or just work the photo to create a painted look?

It's pretty good so far but I think there are still plenty of room for details and more work refining the spicks and specks to really get the UPMPH! - you know what I mean. Could definitely do with more details on the hair, maybe her face and jeans as well. Her skin and the guitar is pretty well done but you can always try different things and see what happens.

Yeah I'm a firm believer that as small as they may seem, these little details really make a difference once put together. Now you know why I'm such a drawing tablet nazi.

Still, congrats for your first painting, massive effort!
Keep it up, and try to join the paint-o-rama contest if you can, looking forward for more entries

to be a comment from such a refined artist I must be honored.
well yeah it was the whole "first time painter" thing .....I found it ..impressively boring .........
would I do it again..........? you are kidding me? HELL NO

joking, it was a nice try for sure, now that I see it....I still have such a long way to do it right and even if is not my style, I still kind of prefer the irregular vector art, I'm gonna keep trying it.

I worked it ...in a pretty strange way, now that I see some tutorials I dont have idea of what I was doing...jaja first I enlarged the original image and put like 40 of opacity then when crazy with the brush....when I finished the whole weird stuff I noted that I ended up changing things, importants, to the original photo...and so I decided to erase it...probably the next time I will try to keep it more organized...anyway

I love details and maybe this time I was kind of distracted.... so hopefully you wont be seeing the same mistakes on the next one.

I'm pretty full-on this week as well but I'll see if I can squeeze some time to get stuff done for ILD. I also want to get stuff done for the painty group and vectorness as well, which at this rate I think I'm being very hopeful ... *sigh*

Oh well, at least the good news is I got crapload of stuff done for my wedding prep with my week off work last week, can't believe it's only 7 weeks to go!

Some points though - I reckon the logs could be less uniform and have more details on them for added realism, could do with some water reflections for her arm and could do without the gray/brown area on the corner (what's that suppose to be?). And perhaps some water ringlets where objects like her arm and clothes obstruct the water.

But then again if you aimed for an old style jap painting type of look then you're pretty much right on the money the way it is now, I reckon.

There is actually a reflection of her arm and those little water ringlets you were talking about, but they are really faint. I'll brighten those up :3

By the way don't feel obligated to rush the x-mas thingie... keep the expanding to winter theme in mind. Another benefit about doing that would be, you could extend the deadline of the project comfortably past New Year's Day :3.
